FSGL 7/30 Recap
No chip ins for SWDJ. But he and CCJ refused to give in, won the scramble, and got back in the Race For the Cup. And cheers to everyone - our entire league showed up to golf and all but three went to HQ. DanDub talked Star80 into coming to HQ with “three friends”. DanDub was all excited. Three friends. He was planning the evening back on #13. She did show up...with three guys. Weren’t they cute, Dan? Dan did challenge Star80 in arm wrestling and they had a long match. But we think that he just wanted to hold her hand that long. Her friends watched.
Our Prez showed up. And he demanded our attention. The outing is still Aug. 23, but it looks like afternoon tee times. And possibly Willow. More info to come.
Our gracious web host administrator Mick (ShortFatGuy) joined up with us for the first time. He listened to Captain and Veep’s cat and horse stories and drank beer. You really ought to join us more often, since you are an Honorary Fore Skin.
When Prez patted his tummy and said he had a six pack there, Oops immediately patted HIS tummy and said he had a case. As we all discussed how this may have been the funniest line all night, SFG patted HIS tummy and said that HE had a keg, immediately rendering Oops’ line the SECOND funniset of the week.
FSGL Poker/Skins Report: Team 5 took Poker. Of course. Greg 2.0 is on that team. all in all, we had three full houses, but MikeR and Greg2.0’s collection of 5’s over 4’s (in a scramble) gave them the money. No skins for scramble night.
Birthday Shot Report: Hey - did we ever do SWDJ’s Birthday Shot?

Two Man Scramble, back nine style tonight.
Match Of The Week.
All of us. Who can manage skins, poker, and low net victories tonight? The FSGL Triple Crown? And on the “easy” nine of Wesburn tonight. Will some pair finally break 30? We shall see tonight.
C-ya,
Captain Schmoe, CTU.
P.S. Isn’t it, like, Star80’s last week? It must be coming up....…

CampCounselorJim's Tip 'O The Week (2003-07-30)
{Captain’s Note: This helps you when your “towards” are off}
Alignment
One of the most common problems for all levels of golfers is poor aim or alignment. Where you are aimed and where you think you are aimed are usually two different things! While practicing, you can always lay clubs on the ground to aid your alignment, but this is something that cannot be done on the golf course.
A better way to practice at the range that is allowable on the golf course is to use an intermediate target. Stand several feet behind the ball and determine your target line. Then, pick a spot on that line approximately 3 to 6 feet in front of your ball. This spot can be a divot, a broken tee, debris, discoloration of the turf, etc. When you address the ball, make sure that you align your clubhead to that spot. As you continue your pre-shot routine, refer to the spot every time you look at your target.
Does it work? Next time you see Jack Nicklaus on TV, watch im as he prepares to hit a shot. As he stands over the ball and lifts his head occasionally to look at the target, watch how he first looks a few feet in front of the ball. This has helped him and many other tour pros with their aim and alignment and I’m sure it can help you too!

Round Robin continues. Front nine tonight. VeepWeen and Kid and Yours Truly will not be there. We will play somewhere else and contest our own FSGL poker. Please hand cards to Oops, or work it out with Treasurer SandBagger.
Match Of The Week.
Team 1 versus Team 4. 1/2 of each team is in Silver Lake. So, we will which sub can hold their own in this battle between 1st and 2nd place. Can SuperSub 2.0 make Captain proud? Or will MaxHeadSpeed show him up and carry Team 1? And who can bribe the other sub the best with beer and such? SandBagger or Oops? Stay tuned, tonight, on the original nine (front) of Wesburn!
C-ya,
Captain Schmoe, CTU.

FSGL 7/16 Recap
Another chip in for SWDJ, as usual, but even he could not dent the Lowest Gross or Net board. Oops was on vacation, so some of the comedy was missing. Star80 was taking tips. MaxHeadSpeed (John Karas) subbed for the first time since surgery and seemed to have a new and improved shoulder.
FSGL Poker/Skins Report: CCJ took poker with four 6’s instead of four 4’s for SuperSub 2.0. And CCJ exclaimed: “I suck the best!” SuperSub 2.0 took 3 of 4 skins (I think Dan’sWorld took the other) while shot 8 4’s and a 5, which cost him 5-of-a-kind at Poker.
Birthday Shot Report: No birthdays. SWDJ is next week.

Par Date 2003-07-16
The second wave of Round Robin starts tonight. We will be playing teams for the second time on the opposite nine from earlier in the year. Cool schedule, huh?
Match Of The Week.
Team 1 versus Team 2. On the A-Flight side you have SandBagger playing SuperSub straight up. Meanwhile, to contrast, the B-Flighters have UncleMike versus Kid, with Kid getting one full stroke each hole. Will Kid’s desire to board UncleMike’s boat next week at Silver Lake cause him to take it easy on UncleMike? Will UncleMike even care? Will Kid talk trash like he does when losing to UncleCaptain in basketball? See for yourself, tonight, on the watered fairways of Wesburn’s back nine!
C-ya,
Captain Schmoe, CTU.
P.S. As I and VeepUncleMike will be vacationing together (with our families!) next week (and taking Kid along as well), there will be no updates next week I believe. I hope to have the standings posted before this week ends. There will be an assigned person to get the cards to (Oops I imagine) when playing next week.

CampCounselorJim's Tip 'O The Week (2003-07-16)
The Golden Rule of Golf is “he who rules the short game, wins the gold."
With on average 65% of a player’s shots each round coming from inside 100 yards, twice as much practice time should be devoted to the short game versus the long game. Below is a chart showing the percentage of putts made by tour pros from distances from 1 to 30 feet. From 6 feet players make nearly 50 % of their putts. Outside of 10 feet a player’s chance of making a putt is very small. So while one player may consistently hit the ball inside of yours with the long clubs, unless he is putting it inside of 10 feet he does not have much of an advantage in converting the putt. But if you can wedge and chip it to 5 feet and he is leaving it 15 feet you have nearly a third of a shot advantage each time. Clearly the ability to get the ball inside of ten feet is the key to scoring, along with putting. While hitting the ball long is fun, the way to better scores and more fun is the short game.

FSGL 7/9 Recap
Teams 6 and 1 had a great night with 4 birdies in a row to win the lowest gross of the night at 4 under par 33. The team also got Star80 to admit that she had a couple extra holes on her body. They didn’t explain, but good job all around. Meanwhile, SuperSub 2.0 (Tom) showed some of us a new game - CroquetGolf - on the 8th tee. Unfortunately, the only time you play is when things are really slow, as they were yesterday - for the first time in a few weeks. CCJ took the weekly SchmoeGolf crown and a few quarters for his efforts. Oops gave a lesson in “street lingo” by making us “talk to the hand”. 2Point got a taste of Greghavior when Oops loudly and sickly farted while he was addressing his ball on the 9th tee when the first two groups played together, which was fun. The playing together part, not the farting part.
FSGL Poker/Skins Report: The good guys won! Teams 4 and 2 split the poker winnings with a three of a kind. Teams 6 and 1 grabbed a few skins to 4and2’s one skin. We decided that skins is not worth it on 4-man scramble nights.
Birthday Shot Report: SandBagger, the numbers man, could not produce the number of years of his life. Only that one was added “on the 6th”. He got free sex for it. A shot of Sex On The Beach that is. No birthday next week? SWDJ is at the end of the month (26th).

The second half of the season begins tonight.
Match Of The Week.
Well, we are playing 4-man tonight, so we are ALL matches of the week I guess.
SandBagger had a birthday this past weekend. We can celebrate tonight...late. How fitting.

Captain Schmoe, CTU.

CampCounselorJim's Tip 'O The Week (2003-07-9)
What a trooper! CCJ has sent a tip anyway!
Yes, I’ve come back to my computer from vacation to give you guys the tip o’ week:
A Club Change for Firm Sand
One of the most common complaints I hear from golfers is the difficulty they have playing from firm or wet sand {Captain’s Note: for me - it’s ALL types of sand.}. Because it is so firm and heavy, many golfers will either leave the ball in the bunker or end up skulling it over the green. Most golf professionals actually prefer the sand to be firm because it is more consistent and you can execute most shots more easily. One of the reasons for poor results from firm or wet sand is the use of a sand wedge with too much bounce on the bottom of the club or too wide a sole.
Next time you practice bunker shots, bring your pitching wedge with you. If you’re practicing from firm sand, you’ll find that the narrower sole and less bounce on the pitching wedge will allow you to enter and pass through the firm sand more easily. Most sand wedges, with their different design, will tend to hit that firm sand and bounce up into the ball. The pitching wedge will tend to have a sharper leading edge and will knife through the sand better, allowing you to enter the sand closer to the ball without worrying about the club skidding into the back of the ball. If you struggle with your wedges from both firm sand and firm fairways, you might want to consider a 3rd wedge for your bag, one with more loft than your pitching wedge, but with less bounce and narrower sole than your sand wedge.

FSGL 7/2 Recap
The Match of the Week became, as Mike prophetized on our blog’s Par Date Comments, the best score of Dan’s life. Dan shot 37 to take over as Team 6 Back Nine A Flighter. Meanwhile, Oops missed a lot of birdie putts, which is good news AND bad news. CCJ went to great lengths to give Star80 his tip. And the Chuck and Dan brothers drag raced on I-75, resulting in Dan (sports car) getting pulled over by the Rockwood Blue, while Chuck (minivan) scooted to HQ unscathed. Alas, Dan received no ticket and arrived at HQ just a bit late.
FSGL Poker/Skins Report: Two point! Greg 2.0 won while not even in attendance. A full boat of 4’s and 6’s I believe. Then Dan (2) and Ween (1) split the three skins. Ween played well. Too bad Dan played his best ever against him.
Birthday Shot Report: It was Oops and Dan’s birthdays! Next week - SandBagger is older.

CampCounselorJim's Tip 'O The Week (2003-07-2)
The Slice
The slice can be the result of many different symptoms. For this tip, let’s concentrate on weight transfer.
When you do not shift your weight and transfer it to your left side at the bottom of the shot, you tend to pull the club across the ball, which results in a left-to-right spin and the slice.
Concentrate on transferring the weight off your right side when you begin your downstroke. This will allow you to get to your left side and turn through the ball.
The club then will have a better chance of coming through impact with the clubface squarely to the target, and have a straighter trajectory.
This weight transfer also will generate more power and distance in your shot.
