Team 2 is hanging on. Barely. And the teams all bunch up. Even Team 1 is showing they have something left. As we all prepare to pass the grandstand for the second time. The homestretch begins.

FSGL 2K4 Recap 7/28
What happened out there? Any stories? I have nothing.
FSGL Poker/Skins Report: Poker was a three-way tie with 4 4’s...almost. Team 1’s sickly bogey-6 on #6 allowed them to take the Poker winnings. Skins? Three teams or so took a skin each.
Birthday Shot Report: No birthdays this week.

Par Date 2004-07-28
Final notice. Please take the poll at the discussion board entitled “FSGL Outing Date”. We are targeting August 28th. Saturday. Noon-ish. Prez is working on a course. Final notice.
Krazy Tee Rule is NOT in effect today.
Because.....it is two-man scramble tonight. Make your own groups. Have fun. Follow the rules. The Captain will not be hearing any formal protests today. Front Nine. Here are the rules:
Scramble: each player hits from the same spot once each, choosing a ball after each round of hits, and continuing until into the cup. The total gross is handicapped with a weighted team handicap (weighed to the A-Flight player’s handicap at 2:1, or 4:3:2:1 for a 4-man team), rounded down to the nearest half-stroke. At least three (3) tee shots must be used from each player on the team (1 each if a 4-man team). 4-man teams consists of the first place team paired with the last place team, 2nd with 7th, etc. Scores are not used for league average and handicap. If a player is absent without a sub who has an established Fore Skins average, the single player, using his own handicap, may play a normal round with the exception that the player may hit twice on one shot on each hole on the course and one shot on the green, at his discretion, and chooses the best of the two shots each time (a 4-man team with less than four players may also repeat a shot and a putt at their discretion).
Match Of The Week.
All of us. Will there be a break in our two-division lineup after today?

Looks like 8/28 at noonish will be the outing. Waiting for more votes. Thank you.
Team 2 answers another threat with a fairly dead heat last week. This week it’s a two-man scramble on the front. Big week here at the end of the backstretch.

FSGL 2K4 Weekly 7/14 - 7/21
We are planning the outing to be 8/28. Any objections? Please vote in the discussion board poll. Thank you.
The noose tightens. Team 2 is hobbling into the next Position Night, still with a lead, but it is much smaller than way back in the first half of the season. Veteran Team 6 is coming on strong with both of their A-Flighters (or are they both B-Flighters?) in mid-season form. Team 5 wins a tie breaker with Team 4 and gets to play the ever-important middle match that may help them gain ground on the “top division”.
Back Nine - Position Night #3
2 vs 6
3 vs 5
4 vs 1

FSGL 2K4 Recap 7/14
We dodged the thunderstorms but not the wind. NewbieKurt informed the Captain he was left of the sheet for a low front nine round. He was right. But it didn’t last long as Prez shot the best B Flighter round in FSGL Front Nine history and bounced NewbieKurt back off. Three guys used the Krazy Tee Rule as everyone had trouble getting between the road and the range on the first tee. Captain got a throwback Washington Bullets hat from SWDJ, but his score remained the same. We had a new sub - JaguarJim (Wayne’s bro Chris, an APJag football player).
FSGL Poker/Skins Report: With our Camp Counselor on vacation, we were lost. Only 4 guys went to the bar (2.0, Captain, VeepWeen, and Gregular). We skipped Skins and played poker. 2.0 won with a full boat. $8!
Birthday Shot Report: No birthdays this week.

Will the front nine be playing as friendly as the back nine?
Match Of The Week.
I have to go with the Jims versus the Prez/DanDub team. So many questions. Will SWDJ keep up the good golfing? Will CCJ stay hot? Who will be the Team 6 A-Flighter. Be there tonight, with the mosquitoes of Wesburn Golf & Country Club!

Camp Counselor Jim's Tip O' The Week (Week 12)
The text of CCJ’s latest tip follows (I attached the PDF file in an email to all members):
The higher the handicap,
the more pivotal the tee ball
becomes. Driving the ball into
water, rough, bunkers, trees and
other hazards is what causes
high-handicappers to rack up
strokes. As players become
more proficient, they develop
skills to execute trouble shots
and hit pitches from the rough
and sand, putting less pressure
on hitting fairways. Itís almost
as if good players expect to
miss every now and then, feeling
confident in knowing that
they have the tools to recover
from an errant drive. Highhandicappers,
unfortunately,
donít have that luxury.
Fact:
M A Y 2 0 0 4 63
If you fall into this category, here comes the
bad news. The key to better golf is developing
a swing that
works well with the driver
all the way down to the
sand wedge. The swing to
which Iím referring moves the clubhead
from slightly inside the target
line to slightly outside the target line on the
downswing. Because short irons have shorter
shafts, they require a steeper angle of descent,
which is why every now and then a steep swing
works well. However, itís too difficult for the
body and mind to cogitate two swings in one
round. For the high-handicappers who really
need to hit more fairways, itís time to dump
that steep and to-the-left swing (often indicated
by marks on the high toe) and trade it
in for a repeatable, inside-out swing motion
that works well with every club in the bag. The
good news: All you need are a few changes to
your setup and swing.
Although you may catch
a few lucky solid shots
here and there, an overly
steep swing often results
in the dreaded flub, chunk
or really fat shot. With a
shallower angle of attack,
players are more inclined
to shift weight properly to
the front foot during the
downswing, thus avoiding
getting stuck (as shown)
behind the ball.
In golf, there are two types of turns: good ones and bad ones.
Tidy UpYOUR GRIP
How you position your hands on the handle
often dictates whether or not youíre going to
have a consistent swing. First and always, grip
with the handle more in the fingers, and make
sure the V-shapes formed between your thumb
and index finger on each hand are pointing
at your right shoulder. This assures the proper
hand position at address. It also serves as a
governor as to how far your hands release,
turn and roll through impact. In addition, itíll
prevent you from collapsing your wrists and
over-rotating or under-rotating the handle.
Set Up RIGHT
Like skiing, golf often requires players to make
certain moves that, on the surface, may seem
counter-intuitive. For instance, when you want
to slow down on skis, youíre actually supposed
to lean downhill. In golf, when you want to
avoid hitting the ball to the right, the correct
adjustment is toóyou guessed itóset up to
the right. Many talented players have adopted
a slightly closed stance because it practically
eliminates an outside-in swing and promotes
a steady right-to-left spin on virtually every
shot. Often, when amateurs struggle with slicing,
they intuitively aim more to the left, which
actually enhances the cutting-across motion.
Try experimenting with a slightly closed stance,
with the ball positioned opposite your left armpit
at address. This will encourage a fuller turn
through the ball from the inside out and, most
likely, will result in a hook or draw spin.
TurnON THE POWER
Most golfers who have the dreaded steep swing
and outside-in swing path tend to take the
club back much too quickly on the backswing.
They rush it and, in doing so, find themselves
trying to pick up the club without turning the
body. When that occurs, so do a lot of other
bad things. One way to alleviate this tendency
is to begin the backswing in a slow, smooth
motion. Practice your backswing as slowly as
you can while still being able to hit the ball.
As you turn back slowly, youíll find yourself
getting your bigger muscles involved. Remember,
the fastest part of the swing is directly
after contact; as you take a longer, slower backswing,
youíre building more power.
HIP TO BE SQUARE
Every golf swing, no matter how good or bad, culminates
at what we all refer to as the moment of impact.
Numerous factors go into good driving, such as the correct
swing angle, swing path, club speed, etc. Among the
most important variables of the moment of impact is the
face angle of the clubhead. The science actually is quite
simple. An open clubface generates clockwise sidespin,
sending your ball right, and a closed face produces the
opposite spin to the left. Now, itís critical to understand
that with a square clubface at impact, itís still possible to
impart sidespin on the ball.
To illustrate, imagine a slightly inside-out golf swing
with a perfectly square clubface at impact. Because the
club is traveling from a slightly inside-out path, the ball
is going to have a slight right-to-left sidespin, which in
the air resembles a gentle draw to the left. That, my friends,
is the ideal swing path. Itís been proven time after time
that draws fly farther and roll longer than fades and slices.
Also, because we swing with a rotary motion at an angle,
itís extremely difficult to repeat a swing that moves directly
back and forward through the ball every time. An
inside-out swing path is much easier to repeat, which is
why itís the ideal swing path for so many golfers. If you
can connect the inside-out path with a square clubface,
youíll be on your way to longer drives and a lot more roll
than that high, floating slice that almost appears to roll
backward once it hits the ground.
To work on getting the clubface square at impact, think
of only your left hand at impact. With a correct grip, the
back of your left hand should be facing
the target, your left wrist unhinged
and not bent at the moment
of truth. To practice this position,
take a normal backswing, but atop
your backswing, release your right
hand and finish the practice swing
with only your left hand, making
sure your hand and clubface are
square at the moment of impact. Not
only will this give you more of a
pulling-through sensation, but it also will encourage the
proper left hand position.
Try these drills, pay attention to your setup, and in a
few short practice sessions, youíll be on your way to
straighter drives.

Path
Clubface The driver always leads the league
FOLLOW THE
CORRECT LINE
The most ideal swing path for
the driver is a shallow, level arc
that originates slightly from the
inside of the target line and finishes
just slightly outside of the
target line. As mentioned, golf
is a series of chain reactions, so
if you take the club back steep
and off-path, youíre most likely going to finish steep and
off-path on the downswing. One way to practice attaining
the correct path and angle is to take a golf shaft with
no clubhead and slide a swim noodle over the shaft. Stick
the shaft in the ground (see below) and aim it in the direction
of the target with enough room for the clubhead
to travel under the shaft without touching. Practice making
a few golf swings in this manner and it will force you
to start swinging from the inside out. If you do slip and
go outside in during the swing, youíll hit the noodle.

driving tips come to life in real-time video.
SQUARE DANCE
To work on
getting the
clubface
square at
impact,
think of
only your
left hand
at impact.
The correct golf
swing doesnít bob
up and down.
Instead, it moves
back and around.
The head should
remain level and
at the same height
from start to finish.

FSGL 2K4 Weekly 7/7 - 7/14
Team 4 won this week! And Team 6 romped. The Newbies’ blow-out loss, coupled with Team 1’s rapid demise, has reshuffled the standings in a big way. One more week till the next Position Night and two divisions of teams have been set. The next two weeks could show an entirely different standings. ESPN would give the next two weeks a clever name. I cannot come up with one yet. Can you? Oh, and sorry 2.0, you didn’t make the sheet for the back nine.

FSGL 2K4 Recap 7/7
The Newbies were out of sorts (you can ask them why) and lost their first match of the season.......to the last place team. Of course that last place team was the tried-and-true-multiple-cup-winning-veteran team of Captain and Gregular. Meanwhile, Greg 2.0 was attempting to get on the sheet for the back nine. Will he make it? We shall see. And VeepWeen shot under his average and still lost. He wanted to let everyone know this. He would like to file a protest.
FSGL Poker/Skins Report: Not sure who won poker. CCJ left a third of the skins pot for The Captain.
Birthday Shot Report: Two birthdays this week again! Gregular and Trez, who visited with us for some sex.

FSGL 2K4 Recap 6/30
I am now 40 years old.....so I can’t remember what happened.
The match of the week - the Newbies versus the Jims was won by the Jims it seems. But it was a good match. SWDJ shot his best front nine score ever I think. Greg 2.0 shot his best of the year. He should get on the sheet NOW.
FSGL Poker/Skins Report: I can’t remember who won. There were about 10 skins it seemed.
Birthday Shot Report: Two birthdays this week! The Captain and SuperSub 2K4. This week, Gregular and Trez (if he visits us).
