2008 Softball Reunion (Sponsored by WAOTNC and FSGL)
The 2008 Softball Reunion was held this past Saturday, June 21 at Civic Center Park in Woodhaven, Michigan. What follows is a recap. It is a true story. No names were changed to protect anyone, although some nicknames were added.
The game, eats, and drinks were completed and consumed prior to bad weather chasing us away in the late afternoon. A good time was had by all.
The “John” team beat the “Jim” team as the two Karas’ were captains once again, per tradition. Team Jim took a big mid-inning lead on a two-out-based-loaded uncharacteristic boot by veteran outfielder Greg “Oops” Galdes. Not uncharacteristic that he fumbled it, but that he was able to run it down at all considering the limited range he shared with many of his (old) teammates. Later, with Team Jim in the field nursing a lead, Team John’s supplied catcher Larry “Shark” Foggia was unable to come up with a seemingly routine pop up behind the plate by Nathan “Nate” Taschler. Foggia swears he lost it in the sun, but that did not placate a very vocal Team Jim at all. With new-found life, Nathan “Granderson” Taschler smacked the very next pitch for a triple and the rally was on. Team Jim also lost star player Bill “Hud” Huddleston later that inning to a knee injury as well as the lead. These events proved to be the turning point as Team John never relinquished the lead. Later, with Team John closer Jacob “Zoom Zoom” Taschler on the mound, Team Jim first baseman Scott “Camp Counselor” Piestrak took dead aim on the perceived weakness of Team John’s outfield and launched a tweener into right field. This time however, Galdes was able to make up for his earlier horrific mistake by making a (his version) “super lateral-to-the-ground-not-caring-if-a-hip-breaks diving one-handed grab” to secure the third out of the inning, keeping Team Jim from re-taking the lead. In order to give equal time, it should be relayed that Piestrak’s version is that Greg “clumsily tripped and fell after trapping the ball.” Regardless, it was called an out and Team John went on to a well-deserved-and-controversial victory.
Update from Oops: Not to pour salt into the wound but the “super lateral-to-the-ground-not-caring-if-a-hip-breaks diving one-handed grab” to secure the third out of the inning” catch was only the second out. Unable to bask in the glory of a routine catch, Galdes alertly threw the ball into the infield to complete the second of two double plays on the day for Team John.
Injury Report:
Hud (Knee) - left game and started cooking food.
Everyone else - sore next day.

FSGL 2008 Week 9 Press Release (6/25)
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening...
The standings finally changed after the mid-season Position Night. One more week and the first half is over. Who will stake their claim as the team to beat in 2008?
Postgame was back to normal a bit. No more about The Captain being old and his kids beating him and stuff. Poker was nailed by Heiney’s 4 4’s (see what happens when you show up?) and skins were split evenly between Heiney, Robber, and The Captain.
Scramble Back Nine. The Captain & the Oops took over first place much earlier than they usually take command. So they will not count their chickens as they are well aware that their record in scrambles, in which there is one scheduled this week, places their front running status in a precarious position at best. Plus, they are known to prefer to come back later in the year and dash the hopes of the other Fore Skin members in a more dramatic fashion than taking the lead at the halfway point. Meanwhile, Team 1 has seemingly woke up, riding Heartbreaker’s euphoric shot making after winning a skin a few weeks ago and Heiney, just, you know, finally physically showing up. Watch out for Team 1. Don’t write Team 6’s eulogy just yet, since they have another half of play on the front nine to use Baz’s average to their advantage and put this latest slip up behind them. Team 2 needs a wake-up call and may get them in the remaining three scrambles. Veteran Teams 5 and Team Pete Morgan are positioned well enough. Do they have what it takes this year? It all starts with a finish to the first half with an always entertaining scramble on the back nine. C-ya.

FSGL 2008 Week 8 Press Release (6/18)
The standings stayed in the same order, but tightened up, in what promises to be the closest Fore Skin race ever. Team 6 stayed in first, but are no longer considered “in command”. They even squandered SuperSub Jacob’s first ever TIE of his old man, The Captain, to perform the worst according to points last week. All other matches were even closer.
Postgame was just a lot of noise about Jacob and him beating his old man (really, he tied him) and The Captain being old and stuff. The Fore Skin Blog writing staff didn’t catch much of it. There was nearly a skin on each hole it seemed. Poker was taken by The Captain’s full boat.
POSITION NIGHT #2. Will Team 6 be able to keep the others at bay heading into the second half of the season? They headline the Match of the Week as Three Time Champions Team 4 take them on in the first tee position this week. All others have to watch.
Congrats to The Professor on his Hockey Hall of Fame election.

FSGL 2008 Week 7 Press Release (6/11)
Wanna go back down and lie beside the sea there...
The standings flopped around a bit after three decisive victories were scored last week.
The Wings took over FSGL post game last week. No poker. No skins. But a Stanley Cup.
One more week of round robin play before another position night. Back nine. See matchups to the right. The Match of the Week is the pre-Position Night clash of the first and second place teams.
With a tin cup for a chalice, fill it up with good red wine...
